Anderson .Paak - Til' it's over
Even though Anderson .Paak promised that he would be releasing two albums in 2018 (one solo and one with The Free Nationals), it's still unclear if the few singles that he has been releasing in the last couple of months will be included on any of them. In the case of "Til' it's Over", it looked that this was only a campaign song to promote a new Apple gadget, but just a few days ago, Paak just came out to claim that it was a song that he had for four years and when the chance to team up with the brand, along with Spike Jonze and FKA Twigs for the video, he just clicked "Send".
So whether this magnificent track is an indicative of what's coming up for his new album or not (other recently released track, Bubblin', goes in a very different direction), we just can sit an appreciate all the skills that this musician is displaying. Like the music video, where FKA Twigs' living room expands with her movements dancing to the track, Til' It's Over expands every sound that Paak puts to play, creating an enveloping sensation of warmth and intimacy, even when he is putting all the rhythms that he excels at in play; electronica, R&B, jazz, pop and dubstep get mixed, stretched and contorted in order to bend their limits and creating such an original flow of musical ideas.
Lyrically, it's the recount of a fun love story condemned to finish because of living in different cities, but rather that suffering it, he has come to the realization that it will be better to enjoy the time being. By coming into terms with the finitude of the affair, he has made it a trascendental one: the only entirely happy love stories are the ones that have an expiration date.
